I apologize. I know I have been rather terrible at updating my blog so I do find it quite ironic that my latest entry would be about my new Etsy shop and the new blog that comes with it. But here goes...

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you...

Old School Cool will focus on my vintage and one of a kind finds, which I have collected quite a lot of, having been on a quest for my very own vintage Frye Lace-Up Boots. The collection is very diverse and I'm pretty sure there's something for everybody so please feel free to look around. I have a ton (Like a gazillion million jillion tons) of stuff for my new shop so please be patient as I try to update as often as possible. In the mean time, please feel free to visit the new shop's blog here for updates, inspiration, promotions, and other good stuff.

Treasury!

Today, I was lucky enough to snag a treasury. I decided to base my treasury on my favorite color which is yellow. Yellow is such a fun and cheerful color. My room used to be yellow until I had it painted pink. Well, I also like pink so I guess that's ok. Hehehe.

I particularly like the yellow and blue color combination so you'll see some of that in my treasury. For me, yellow and blue makes me feel like summer. Clear blue skies on a sunny day! It makes me think of the scent of fresh lemons too. Citrusy scents make me think of summer. Remember that soda called "Mellow Yellow"?

I rotate my "crafts" every now and then to change things up. Last week, I got back to crocheting. I ended up making some little berries as a thank you gift. They turned out really cute! I'm "hooked" on crocheting again so I'll probably do some more amigurumi stuff for the rest of the week. If you haven't tried amigurumi, you should! It's so easy and fun!

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day and I spent most of my morning refreshing the Aveeno page to get the free Envirosax tote bag. I was undoubtedly one of the first 1000 people to go to the page when it went live because I refreshed just the right time to witness it. (Yes, I was refreshing *that* much because being the tote bag junkie that I am, I had to have that bag). The page was very buggy and it had tons of Java errors. I tried a couple more times (a few more hours actually), but the bugs were still there. In the end, I did not get one. Boo! :(

I've become environmentally conscious almost a year ago when I got my Method "Plastic Bag Rehab" tote bag. I thought it was really cute and clever that from that day on, I vowed never to use plastic bag ever again. I've collected tons of other tote bags since then and I have a shoe box full in the backseat of my car, ready for use anytime! I also carry 2 in my purse for those "you'll never know" moments. I use them to carry groceries, craft supplies, clothes, books, anything!

In our house, plastic bags multiply like bunnies. Next thing you know, you've got a gazillion in your stash. We avoid plastic bags as much as possible but in instances that we do get the occassional plastic bag, we make sure that we reuse them by using them as trash bin liners. We also bring the excess plastic bags to our local grocery store since they offer to recycle them for free.

Using tote bags is definitely one easy change that we can all get into and actually stick to that will help the environment. Who wants to carry those icky plastic bags anyway when you can carry your goods around in a really cute tote?

I'll be participating in a craft show soon and I decided to paint wooden trays to use as displays. I've been painting and varnishing them for a couple of nights now. I find it so soothing. I just let my mind wander as I brush (sometimes slather) paint and varnish on. Of course, the final product is not as pretty as the ones you would buy in a store but I'm quite happy with it. They turned out nice. Kind of shabby chic. I cannot wait to use them and I really hope that the craft fair will be a success! I plan to brainstorm the layout for my table next week when I've got everything in order. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time! If you're in the area, please do drop by and say "Hi!". :)

Running With Scissors.

Running With Scissors is an indie craft show featuring Michigan's best artists and crafters. Parking and admission are FREE! Show hours are from 10am - 6pm and will be held at the E.L. Hannah Community Center (819 Abbott Rd., East Lansing, MI). Food and drinks will be available for purchase, provided by KJ's Cafe. A DJ will be there to rock out while you shop too!

We will be accepting non-perishable food donations to be given to the local food pantry. There will also be a raffle with all proceeds going to the Capital Area Humane Society. Raffle tickets will be $1 each with awesome prizes donated by the vendors.

Products will include paper goods, buttons and magnets, cute felt hair accessories, needle felted sculptures, knitted gadget cozies, mosaics, stained glass, jewelry, mixed media, original paintings, upcycled and eclectic clothing, screenprinted tees, and much more! Susan Van Camp, fantasy artist and creator of Dragon Storm RPG, will be there too!

So, come check out some truly unique and talented Michigan artists and crafters! Mark your calendars and help support handmade Michigan! Don't walk, run! (But leave the scissors behind)

This is the second time that I've lost my Joann's coupons! The first time, I thought it was just a fluke, that maybe I just misplaced it. Now, I'm starting to think that we have a Joann's coupons gnome! (And I thought they were only interested in socks! LOL!)

I clipped the coupons last weekend to purchase some red melting chocolate for Valentine's but since they were on sale, I didn't need to use the coupons. I distinctly remember putting the coupons back in my bag. Yesterday, I dumped out all the contents of my bag and there were no coupons in sight! I've looked everywhere! Still, I could not find those coupons!

Some people have gnomes that collect socks. Ours collect Joann's coupons. If I ever catch him, I will tell him to sign up for his own newsletter!

Today, I received the most wonderful Etsy-related news ever! A lovely intern from the Etsy Blog sent me a convo informing me that my Cute Owl card set has been selected by the Storque as one of the cute lovey dovey items! They're currently having a poll and the winners will be featured in the Gift Guides and the Etsy Blog! This is the biggest thing that has ever happened to me on Etsy. It made my day! Heck, it made my year! Win or lose, I feel like a winner already having been chosen to participate in the poll. Being featured alongside the other items is such an honor. But I must admit, it would be nice to be featured though! :)

Peas in a pod.

As I've mentioned in an older post, I was gifted with a amigurumi book last Christmas. The last time I crocheted was like years ago when I was busy learning how to make granny squares. I was really surprised at how quick I picked the skills up again. It was like riding a bike. It's just weird that it didn't feel that way back when I was still in grade school, learning how to crochet for the first time. We would have those hands on tests on the different crochet stitches and I could never seem to remember how to do them at all! I dreaded it so much! Fast forward a few years later, I've realized how fun crocheting is! Just look at the cute little peas I made below! I added some personal touches (beret, flower clip, and cheek blush) on the peas to make them even cuter! I'm thinking what I should do next...

Resuscitate: To restore to life.

After a month of nothingness, I've decided that it's time to resuscitate some life back into my blog. A lot has happened since my last entry (read: holidays). I finally got my button machine last Christmas! That was a really pleasant and awesome surprise from my family! I've also started to crochet again. I got a really cute amigurumi book and some crocheting supplies and I'm having a blast! I'm so glad we had Home Economics class back in grade school. I never knew it would come in handy some day. Plus, I must admit, other than making granny squares, I never really thought crocheting could be so much fun! The little amigurumi projects are so cute! I also got featured in a couple of blogs and treasuries the past month. Here's a shoutout to PinkFlowerCube, 3zart, and Tizzalicious. Thank you so much, guys! It has been almost a month since I last posted something. Since today is officially December, I have to *really* post my holiday items. No excuses! Else, I will be stuck with my holiday items until next year. Not that cuteness has an expiration date or anything but I would definitely like my babies to spread some cuteness this holiday season.

A bit of good news after a month of hibernation... I made a sale today! I sold a button pack! Yay! *throws some confetti* It has been been quite some time since I made a sale that I have forgotten how awesome it feels! There's nothing like waking up and checking your emails to see that you've sold some cuteness.

Okies! I'm in the process of preparing my photos for upload to Etsy. I have posted a couple of holiday items already but I still have to post a couple more. I'll be back shortly!

Once again, I have failed to update my blog for almost a week. Work and a runny nose kept me preoccupied. I realized I wasn't able to do a Cute Finds feature last Sunday so this weekend, I will be doing a double feature! Yay!

This is way over due but the new items should be added in my shop before the week ends. I've got buttons, notecards, and more postcards! I'll be adding some holiday cards too! It's just a matter to whipping out my trusty old camera and editing the photos.

I've printed out some stickers for packaging and promo materials. They turned out really cute! Judging from the photos below, it would be safe to assume that I spent my Saturday afternoon making good use of the craft punch I bought at Joann's the other day. I enjoy punching and I love stickers! I'll be working on some more promo materials soon for the goodie bags I signed up for at Etsy. I must be diligent at marketing if I want to sell anything. I've been so tired lately that I haven't updated in ages! So much to do, so little time! Wah! Just a quick recap of the week that passed though... Well, I didn't win any of the giveaways but I made my first sale. (Congratulations to the winners and thank you to my first buyer!) Joining giveaways are fun! The thought of the possibility of winning something so special is so exciting! It would be such an honor! It would be great if I can win one next time though. LOL! I'll still be on the lookout for more giveaways and I'll be sure to post them here. Who knows? We just might get lucky.

On the brighter side of things (where unicorns and fairies reside), I made my first sale last week. I sold 3 card sets! Hurray! That makes my Etsy shop and official shop now! My lovely friend was the one who purchased it. Thank you so much to you, Cherry! Now, if I can only get a non-relative, non-friend, basically someone who doesn't know me in real life to take a chance on me and purchase one of my goodies. I just want to know what the rest of the world thinks about my stuff.

Joann's had their Moonlight Madness sale. I went yesterday and bought a 2 inch punch for some promotional items I was thinking of making for goodie bags and such. I also got a plastic storage case. A new batch of items should be arriving in the mail soon so I must make room. Yes! More cuteness coming to my Etsy shop! Yay!

I've decided to take part in some promo packs and goodie bags in Etsy. I just opened my shop and I could use all the marketing and advertising I can get. Right now, I'm quite busy putting together some samples and business cards to send out. Hopefully, the parcels should be out the door by Wednesday. I'm not really sure if this will work but you'll never know unless you try, right? I just hope that all this effort and extra expense will pay for itself later. I want to give my shop the exposure it needs to make that first sale. The pressure is driving me nuts!

I was having a rather blah day when the DHL truck drove by. I stood there, peeping outside our window, wondering if the DHL truck was going to stop in front of our house. (I do the same thing too when the postal truck comes. Heh!). It was an intense 10 seconds or so as the DHL truck drove past our house, only to back up a few meters. Such suspense! But at last! The DHL guy emerges from the parking lot, with a little brown box cradled in his arms. Finally! My other DHL package has arrived! Hurray! Now, I'm one step closer to opening my shop!

I don't own a hamster or a puppy (or anything cute that's alive for that matter) for fear that its sheer cuteness will compel me to squeeze the cuteness out of it. I know it kind of sounds morbid but cuteness makes me lose control! For cute addicts, I'm sure you know what I mean. Cuteness is just so irresistible! It compels one to hug and pinch the bearer of cuteness without much restrain! It can drive one absolutely crazy! So for those of you who own a hamster or a puppy, I have a question for you...

After a quick trip to Target, I'm finally home with some Domo goodies. I got a little Domo tote bag filled with candy and a mini figurine set. D gave me a Frankenstein Domo plushie and a pumpkin Domo plushie earlier so I was a happy camper. I wanted to get the Domo bag but they were no longer available. *tear* I will be checking out the other Target store tomorrow to see if I'll get lucky there. *crosses fingers*

Domo-kun of NHK fame has invaded Target! I went to the local store the other day to check out their clearance racks when I was pleasantly welcomed by Domo-kun! They had this gigantic Domo plushie and some really cute Domo cutouts in Halloween costumes hanging from the ceiling! I wanted to jump and just tear one off for me to take home! Imagine how cool that would look in my makeshift studio! We went around the store to hunt down the Domo items but we couldn't find them. I logged on their website to check out the stuff but unfortunately, the items can only be purchased in stores. Boo! Needless to say, I'll be going back to Target this afternoon to take a closer look. Thanks to the DHL guy who decided that I am finally worthy of receiving my package yesterday, I (technically) have items to sell at my shop now. However, after much pondering, I have decided to postpone opening shop for another week or so. I'm really excited and all but I believe it would be better to open shop when I have more items. I have decided to *gasp* wait for my other DHL package to arrive. That should give potential buyers more choices. Plus, I didn't realize how much work it was. Now that I come to think about it, it seems that much more preparation needs to be done.

I sat there looking at all these settings and policies. I must write descriptions too. I reckon I must polish my writing skills and a trip to the post office to get shipping estimates is an order. I've worked as a Marketing Manager for 2 years but I must say, it's a whole different ball game when it's yourself you're marketing. I really just hope everything turns out fine.

Guess what finally showed up at my front door this rainy afternoon? My DHL package! I came to find out about the arrival of my package via the tracking page. (I could not resist myself). It said on the status that it was delivered which confused me for a while since I never heard anyone knock on the door. I immediately ran to the door to see if the DHL guy left it on our doormat, nothing. I looked at our door to check if he left a note, nothing as well. I was ready to accept another day of defeat when there it was. Nestled on the corner was my little brown package, like a shy baby squirrel hiding. I must say, that DHL guy is really sneaky! He didn't knock, leave a note, or anything! Just like a ninja. Or a stork maybe? Hmmm... Thank you for your delivery anyway!

Slouchie booties.

I was on the phone speaking to a DHL representative regarding my package when the UPS guy knocked on my door. The slouchie booties I got from eBay have arrived! Hurray for the ever reliable UPS guy! It would be cool if my DHL package arrived too so I can finally set up shop but I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow. Besides, the DHL representative I spoke to informed me my package is not even out for delivery today. After sitting in the delivery truck for 2 days, it's probably sitting at the warehouse now. Bah! My cute slouchie booties will keep me calm and satisfied for a while. *grins*

*knocking on door*

Who could this be? Wow! It's the Fedex guy delivering more of my eBay stuff! Oh, what fun! Packages arriving back to back! Yipee! I wasn't expecting this package to arrive until tomorrow so this is really a pleasant surprise. It's just so funny that all my packages arrived today except for that one package I'm anticipating.

Now, if it's true that a watched pot never boils, would that mean that a watched package never gets delivered? *closes DHL tracking page*

The first day of the month.

There's no day like the first day of the month to start a new blog for my new shop. Actually, I'm still in the process of setting up my shop but I absolutely cannot wait to hit the ground running. Almost everything is in place now. Well, everything except the items I'm going to be selling. DHL is giving me some problems with regards to the logistics of my package but I remain hopeful that after 2 days of practically waiting by the door for the DHL truck to pull up, today would be the day when my package would arrive.
